I had nine teeth pulled last friday.

My teeth were literally crumbling in my mouth- not for lack of dental care, but as a side effect of the type of arthritis I have. I'm getting ready to have my third knee replacement, but the horrible condition of my teeth was a stumbling block due to the risk of infection.

Now that that's out of the way I can proceed once my mouth heals. Some time after the beginning of the year I'll finally have my right knee replaced, and hopefully this will be a major step (so to speak) toward me getting out of the wheelchair I've been chained to for the past five years.

For the curious, the answers to a couple questions- I stayed awake and my mouth was numbed with injections for the procedure. The worst part was the two shots he had to give me through my upper palate. The remainder of the procedure was painless, and after the numbness wore off there was actually very little pain.

I already feel physically much improved. It's amazing how one doesn't realize how bad teeth will drag a person's health and well being down, and how quickly a person can snap back from it, even after a long period of time.

Merry Christmas to me!!!

You are absolutely right about the effect of bad teeth on a person's health. I STILL to this day don't understand why dental work is not included with every health plan.
Any doctor will reinforce the importance of dental health and overall health.

Hope everything works out. Merry Christmas to you!

somewhere else but at the dentist but, not to sound like a goody-two-shoes -
I do try to remind myself while I'm in The Chair that I'm acdtually fortunate because there are people who would love to get the dental care they need.

One is still in the hospital. Last I saw a pic, he had a trachea tube and needs a lung transplant.

because of his teeth. I also know that if I hadn't received a pneumonia vaccination ten years ago I'd be in very dire circumstances right now due to the fact that my immune system has been long since trashed due to the medications I need to take. I also had a booster vaccination this summer. Against all odds my lungs are strong and clear.

Screw the anti-vaxxers- they're wrong. DEAD wrong. Vaccinations WORK. They saved my life.

SO good to hear from you and I'm thrilled that your teeth are no longer in the way of better health for you!

I am looking forward to seeing photos of you standing, once your right knee is replaced...........

Hope my holiday card got there.

Merry Christmas to you, and to all of us!

I had I think five pulled when I was a kid, I just had too many coming in. I remember just feeling miserable after.

Peace

I need to have one pulled on my upper right side, the one right before the wisdom. Half of it cracked off from hard candy I think. Plus arthritis, and daily painkillers made it more fragile, fun for me.

What about eating? I still have all but three of my teeth, but am having problems and I believe
I'll need considerable work down the road. It's a shame that the ACA doesn't cover dental.
I hope you get out of your wheelchair ASAP.
