So, walking into Haggens last week, I saw a sign advertising egg nog ice cream

and how pairing it with rum would be a tasty holiday treat. I thought, yeah, that sounds yummy. I searched for the egg nog ice cream and couldn't find it. Giving up, I went to check out and the clerk asked me if I had found everything and I said that I couldn't find the ice cream I wanted. She went and looked for it and then ultimately called the manager to find out where it was. The manager said they didn't carry it. So I mentioned to them that they had a huge sign advertising egg nog ice cream. The clerk said they would take it down, since they don't carry it. Well, I went in today and yes they still have the sign up and with no egg nog ice cream for sale. Why do stores do stupid things like that?

The sign could have been placed there by a vendor or sales rep. ohnoyoudidnt Dec 2015 #2

Maybe they thought they could persuade you to try something else?

It's stupid, I agree.

For whatever reason it wasn't ordered. It could be a seasonal item that had a limited supply and the store didn't get any or the manager decided to not order it. Being the holiday season and pretty hectic for retailers, removing the sign could have been a forgotten task.
