Shut the fuck up, George. Slavers? Really?
I sold them to the white slavers that takes these things, and , Lucas said before laughing and deciding it better not to finish.

(28,262 posts)The original flick had one "black" character in it, Darth Vader----and ultimately, even HE turned out be nice and white, inside. If Wagner were still around, he'd do an opera of it----that's how white it is.
Go back to the corner and keep counting your money, George.

(8,217 posts)Still, I do take your point and I can't agree with George at this time.
The new movie was done well, and was entertaining, which is far better than what he has come up with as his directing style seems to be stuck in the 70s.

(28,262 posts)Haven't seen the new movie, will probably wait until it turns up on TV.

(8,217 posts)I like the new characters, and unlike the last trilogy, the acting is not wooden.

(37,457 posts)If he wanted more or full creative control, he shouldn't have sold it. That was not a good moment of yours, Mr. Lucas.
The Second Stone
(2,900 posts)and had no Jar-Jar Binks.
I rather enjoyed the prequels except for Jar-Jar and the overly long pod race. And midichlorians. I saw them as children's movies.

(2,900 posts)The Force was better as a mystery. This made it a "how much horsepower can be measured on the dynamo-meter" question. It broke the suspension of disbelief. Even Lucas, especially Lucas, should have known this.

(22,340 posts)The force isn't something that is out there for everyone--it's just for the select few.
Which is why I hope that Rey isn't....well, you know. (Do I still need to worry about spoilers?)

(4,138 posts)At one point, he delivered a mini-lecture about how "some" directors went overboard with CGI and special effects, and lost track of the story. How can he be so lacking in self-awareness?

(9,527 posts)Granted I'm a bad geek and didn't really care for the first trilogy as I found the characters very flat, but even in the first trilogy the ewoks prove that he was both lazy in regards to the story as they are really just short wookies with the name reversed that were designed to sell toys rather than adding to the story in any meaningful way.
And the second trilogy was just amazingly bad.

(27,677 posts)Lucas had originally planned for Endor to be the Wookie home world but that he figured he would make a killing selling Ewok merchandise. The "official" (Greedo shot first) explanation is that he wanted a world with stone age level technology and that Wookies (Chewbacca at least) were shown to be adept with technology.

I know a lot of Russian filmmakers. They have a lot more freedom than I have. All they have to do is be careful about criticizing the government. Otherwise they can do anything they want.
And when it comes to the Hollywood system, both back then and today, Lucas says, You have to adhere to a very narrow line of commercialism. And to show how dangerous that can be, with studios just wanting sequels, remakes and more, he reminds us:
