I'm as proud as can be of my child.

Now I swore I was not going to be one of those types who was going to bore others to tears with things my kid does or doesn't do but I have to pass this on.
It's REAL cold here in eastern Iowa right now and as a result, the kids (and adults) are staying inside and consequently, bored. Well, my little one, Tanya (not her real name) decided that she's outgrown a lot of her toys and decided to box some of them up and give them to some homeless kids. She's doing this as we speak. So when we go to pick up her mom from work later on, we are going to go to a local homeless shelter and give the kids there some toys in reasonably good condition. And the most amazing thing of all? She's doing this on her own. We didn't urge her to do this. She may have overheard us talking about the remake we are planning for her room later this year, but she just decided today that she is going to "give the toys to the kids." Her words. I am so proud that I could just burst. I think there may be some extra $ in her allowance next week but I have to be careful not to tell her why. I think we'll just say that she did extra work around the house or something.
Anyway, thanks for indulging a proud papa. I guess something that we hint at may be sinking in after all. Oh yeah, in case anyone wants to know, she's all of 7 years old.

You never know when someone--especially a child--will choose to do something because of
something said or done by someone she admires.
