During the TCA Winter Press Tour, Netflix CCO Ted Sarandos confirmed that Marvel's Jessica Jones has been renewed for a second season. Additionally, the streaming service has confirmed that showrunner Melissa Rosenberg will also be returning for the second season of the fan-favorite Marvel series. However, there's no official premiere date yet.
The first season of Jessica Jones premiered on November 20 of last year, but the second season will most likely arrive sometime in 2017, after the The Defenders, which is also expected to premiere that year. The 13-part series stars Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, Rachael Taylor, Wil Traval, David Tennant, Carrie-Anne Moss and more.

(47,552 posts)After watching Daredevil and now Jessica Jones, I think Netflix has figured out how to do the superhero thing.
Movies are too short, and too many changes need to be made.
Regular TV is too cowardly, and everything ends up like a children's show.
Keep 'em coming, Netflix.

(56,828 posts)Arrow has been pretty dark at times - certainly not kid's stuff, and Flash has been a good show overall. Certainly not as dark or mature as Jessica Jones, but both are good shows.

I've met superheros like that.

(9,527 posts)I love David Tennat in Broadchurch, but I didn't care for his character in Jessica Jones.

(63,212 posts)I thought that he was terrific as Kilgrave, in large measure because I'd recently finished binge-watching him as the hyper-benevolent Doctor. To see him portray a vile predator was quite a jolt, and I found him convincingly creepy.
One's mileage varies, of course, but I hadn't heard your take on his portrayal before.

(12,132 posts)Dude's got chops.
Loved him as the doctor, felt bad for him in Broadchurch, and despised him in JJ. I'd say he's doing his job most excellently. I'll certainly seek out whatever he's in the future. I know he'll be great.

(56,828 posts)I really don't know him from anywhere else (never watched a minute of any Doctor Who episode), so it was basically a blank slate for me going into the show, and I thought he was excellent - a notch above the excellent portrayal of Wilson Fisk by Vincent D'Onofrio on Daredevil

(63,212 posts)I knew that D'Onofrio would be great because that's what he does. For the first few episodes he seemed like an ineffectual wimp, but I soon realized that it was all the set-up for his scene when he takes care of the Russian mobster. Terrific misdirection, and I was totally floored.
I didn't realize I'd seen Ritter in anything until after I'd watched all of Jessica Jones, so she was essentially a surprise from start to finish. I also didn't know anything about the character herself, yet I was immediately hooked.
I initially had two concerns:
1. I found the voice-over to be heavy-handed, but that seemed to fade as the series went along.
2. At first I thought they'd fallen into a sort of "abused woman overcomes it" cliche, but they played it so well, and Ritter's performance was so convincing, that I wish I'd trusted them in the first place.
I've heard from (and read accounts by) real-world abuse victims who've praised the series for its realistic and sensitive portrayal of abuse, even when viewed through the lens of Marvel's cinematic universe.
Great stuff. Can't wait to see what's next.

(56,828 posts)until some time next year (2017) - we have Daredevil Season 2 coming in March, then Luke Cage later this year, and I think The Defenders is coming in early 2017? So, maybe mid 2017 for JJ season 2?
I only remember Ritter from her brief and tragic role in Breaking Bad.
Netflix is big enough now that they could do 3 Marvel shows a year instead of 2.

(53,410 posts)I totally loved it. An adult super hero showing warts and all!
I've tried watching a few other 'dark' shows since but the grit just wasn't there.
I also think the villain was one of the best (worst?) ever. That character was truly evil the way he just offhandedly tortured, mutilated and killed people. I can't think of anything more evil than the things he did to people.
