He looks happy. I wouldn't blame him for staying in where it's warm and dry. In_The_Wind Feb 2016 #5

I want an early long lasting spring. Is that too much to ask for?

Spring never lasts long enough.

We have bulbs poking up, but they were visible in December. Our yard is so swampy from the big melt-down that I haven't looked for any signs of spring yet.

My parents were married on February 2, 1946 and had 67 anniversaries to celebrate that day. Now I just get depressed since Dad died in 2013 and Mom no longer knows what day it is.

But remember ... they shared lots of happy anniversaries together. Your Mom would probably miss your Dad more if she knew today is her anniversary.

Mom was fine after Dad's death - she knew it was his time. He wanted to get to 90 and managed to live six months after his birthday. He was active right up to the last day he was aware and didn't linger long after his brain gave out.

Since Dad passed, Mom's Alzheimer's has accelerated. Her whole world was upended and she pretty much has given up. In some ways it's kinder for her even though it's hard on the rest of us. At least her physical health is good.

On the other hand, my MIL's brain is great but her body is giving out. She's been in the hospital since December 29 and may never be able to go home again. My husband has spent much of January in his hometown helping his siblings take care of her affairs.

So I'm a little down today. It used to be a day to celebrate.

Excuse me - I need to go do something to cheer up.
