Anyone interested in this? I thought the trailer had a few good jokes but I'll probably wait for good reviews before I go see it, or just wait for it to come to Netflix or something.

I loved the original.

(2,302 posts)It looks much better than I was expecting. Melissa McCarthy might actually be performing humor rather than buffoonery.

(13,447 posts)Tina Fey should've taken the "Venkman" position that McCarthy got. The ghosts look terrible. Obviously fake CGI that looks far worse than the ghosts in the original.

(2,103 posts)I don't think I've ever seen a trailer panned this much ( -60,000 net likes ).
I wonder how this will effect Sony's release plans.

(16,916 posts)4 very funny ladies (nice move, btw!) playing scientists and engineers? That's a good enough reason to reboot!
Of course you'll get the usually OFB (original fan base) who can't admit the the 1st movie has aged, and then the gang that has never met a CGI effect that passes their rigorous standards, and finally the amateur experts that would have cast "X" instead of "Y," or would have written a better script, or used a better director/cinematographer/art designer, etc., etc.
Seems those folks should go make a movie themselves, and dazzle the public and the academy with their skills.
I'm very much looking forward to seeing this movie.

(12,723 posts)Originally Ernie Hudson's character was supposed to be a high ranking air force officer with an education. After he signed they cut his part and made him the uneducated member of the group.
Thirty years later and the same shit is still happening. The white women have phds and the black woman will be lucky if they let her character go to community college.
Here is one of many articles about this bullshit
http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/mar/08/ghostbusters-remake-not-feminist-black-women
When Twitter began to buzz that the first Ghostbusters reboot trailer had been released, I was anxious to see if it would soothe my uneasiness over the casting of three white female leads and one black woman as the sole representation of diversity among the eponymous heroes.
Unsurprisingly, the trailer eviscerated my oh-so-low expectations by sinking to the racist low of the 1984 original. Leslie Joness character, Patty Tolan, is presented in the films first trailer next to three brilliant white female scientists as the seemingly intellectually inferior token black woman with street sense and a Cadillac.
Perhaps its progress that Joness character is afforded the opportunity to be featured in film advertisements at all. In 1984, Ernie Hudson and his character, Winston Zeddemore also the only team member who wasnt an academic was completely excluded from the trailers actor credits and character introductions.

(63,220 posts)But I can't pretend that I didn't cringe at the portrayal.
I've set a rather low bar for this film. If it's as least as entertaining as the explosively unfunny Ghostbusters II, then I'll be content.

(3,702 posts)I love love love love Leslie Jones...her stand up is funny, she slays on SNL (despite 'breaking')
Kate McKinnon - Oh I love her too!! Yay - she is so great!! And weird - I love weird.
Not thrilled that the movie is reboot rather than just a stand alone continuation of the Ghostbusters franchise because it is too easy to try to make comparisons...and you really can't and not be disappointed.
Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson were fantastic - the movie is/was a cultural icon. You can't remake or reboot it....you can pay homage to it.

During "Operation Vittles" aka the Berlin Airlift, an Army Air Corps captain named Gail Halvorsen was assigned to fly C-54s full of food into Tempelhof Central Airport, which was used as the US Army Air Corps, and later Air Force, Base in Berlin. It's a long story but the captain decided to drop some candy to the kids who hung out by the fenceline to make them happy. He used his entire ration to buy candy from the PX, got his buddies to use THEIR rations to buy candy, rigged it on parachutes and dropped it before he landed. He started doing it once a week. Eventually the general in charge of the operation found out about it...the general called the Pentagon, the Pentagon called the press and the candy industry, and all America got behind it. One of Halvorsen's last assignments was as commander of Tempelhof. He's still alive.
2. The Axe Murder Incident: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axe_murder_incident
Short summary: There was a tree blocking the view between two command posts on the Korean DMZ. Two US Army officers accompanied some Korean Service Corps troops to trim some branches on the tree. The North Korean Army beat the two officers to death. Three days later, the US and Korean Special Forces sent out an "overwhelming show of strength" to cut the tree down.
3. The Ironman. No link on this one. The infamous Ironman Triathlon started in Hawaii as essentially a bar bet: a bunch of hardcore athletes were arguing as to whether ocean swimmers, marathon runners or long-distance bike racers were the most fit, so to find out they decided to run the three most grueling events in Hawaii - an ocean swim, a bike race around one of the islands, and a marathon - all in one day. Turns out none of them had ever done the bike race because if they had they would know it was actually a two-day event. (Oops.)
4. The Bill Bernbach Story. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Bernbach
He was the ad man who came up with all of those.

(1,681 posts)Quite a bit of slapstick & the lame humor is more transparent than the ghosts. I cringed at multiple "lines". No respect for the source material. Everyone is either smirking, over-acting or mailing it in. The actors have no natural chemistry compared to the original cast.
The ghosts do not appear impressive (weak-ass CGI). No sense of fear or dread at all. Well, at least I saw a second of Slimer.
Over 30 years ago? It just reminds me just how awesome, original & how funny the first movie was. They shit all over Ramis's legacy.
