Outside of DU/politics, what are your current passions/interests?

I am recovering from some burn out issues with my preemie/special needs project, and have renewed an interest in Korean Dramas, which has me googling Korean/Japanese/Chinese history at the oddest moments as I struggle to understand the context of what I am watching.

I did not know that Japan invaded Korea and kidnapped over 100K people, primarily to get the Korean ceramic artisans, during the 16th century - almost 20% of the population stolen from home - totally fascinating stuff!

What about you? What keeps your mind spinning lately?

...the latter a long mystery pastiche, which, alas, isn't quite coming together yet. The history? I've been on a 17th-century England kick...two books on the Civil War, a long one on the supposed murder of James I, and one on the Glencoe Massacre. The jazz? Lots of Mingus, lots of Bill Evans, some Monk...always Miles... Next month, it'll be different stuff...:-/

I've always loved music, and had pretty wide-ranging and eclectic tastes. but never really listened to much pre-WWII American music (except jazz), so diving into old musical traditions has been a really interesting education, as well as being fun and satisfying to play.

Korea is a pretty interesting place. It's amazing that they've retained such a strong ethnic identity in the face of centuries of repeated domination by either Japan or China.

I keep finding more to order from Netflix. It started with "Poldark" and escalated from there.

We have some stressful family things going on, so for me, escapism is good right now.
