Oh my god, this Adblock....so far it seems to work wonders.

I just got it today.

Annoying spammish ads are off all my websites, DU included.

Is there some sort of downside to it? Like, does my personal info get sold to Russian hackers now? It just seems too good to be true.

Somebody on DU posted a link to Forbes and I had to disable it to see the content. But it's easy to disable for that site or even just that page.

on CBS.com anymore. even when I turn off the ghostery blocking. Not sure how to change that but I can live without watching their videos too.

Whatever ad platform with the clickbait ads DU had used was freezing up the site every 10 minutes or so.

for some reason like I install chrome to look at some website that doesn't work with seamonkey, I see the internet in its ad saturated glory. I can't believe people put up with that crap. It gives me a headache in 30 seconds.

Long live Adblock.

to people who create online products. They worked hard to create whatever you were watching or reading, and you want to use their product for free? The least we can do is tolerate a few ads as payment for that service. Or subscribe via donations to their service.

I don't know why DU chose to go with an ad platform full of clickbait type ads that caused the page to freeze up every 5-10 minutes, but it was getting annoying.

Another sports related site I enjoyed going to was rendered virtually unusable because the ads were freezing the page.

Get better, more reliable ad platforms with genuine ads and not clickbait, and there's no need for Ad Block. Plain and simple.

And I'm not opposed in practice to the idea of ads but when the people who do the ads start bombarding me with ads for Republicans and their dumbass causes I started using adblock because it was the only way to get some peace and quiet.

I've never seen DU with ads.

If anything, it will kill any plague of scam emails and the like since very creepy shit is downloaded in a LOT of ads whether or not you click on them. I used to get all kinds of creepy scamming emails (those "click on this link to unsubscribe" rubbish that just sells your info so you get more and more of them). After about a week or so using Firefox with Adblock (and then Adblock Plus when it upgraded to that) I haven't gotten a SINGLE weirdo email since.

A couple of weeks ago I helped my landlord set up an ebay account on his laptop, and I just couldn't believe how bad the ad plague had gotten... even YouTube videos are plagued with ads! I got him set up with Firefox and Adblock Plus, then figured out how to set up the adblocker on his Chrome (I don't use Chrome or have it at all on my own computer). He's loving the add ons with Firefox especially the Video Download Helper.

I'm shocked at how many people using the internet put up with all those stinking ads. I think I'm even more shocked at how incredibly invasive the ad plague has gotten since I've been using an adblocker for ages... cripes, half a webpage is nothing but blinking, talking, bad music screaming, video streaming ADS!!! How do people stand it???
