Salomon's father Dr. Albert Salomon was a moderately famous physician, who performed some of the earliest work on the interpretation of mammograms as a diagnostic aid in breast cancer detection and in the x-ray determination of recurrence or lack thereof in women who had mastectomies.

Both of Salomon's parents survived the war by going into hiding in the Netherlands during the German occupation.

Charlotte, had also emigrated from Germany, and was residing in Villefrance-sur-mer in France when it was occupied by the Germans. She was arrested and deported to Auschwitz where she was apparently gassed immediately, being five months pregnant at the time.

The startling thing about the interview, although it is tangibly underlain with grief, is the joy the parents take in their daughter's life, and their pride at her accomplishments as an artist.
