and I don't have the money to get them their shots. I started another gofundme campaign to get vet care for the cats so I won't have to give them up, as well as a cheap bed for me. I have to throw away my bed because of bed bugs and now I'm sleeping on an air mattress, which I don't mind if it weren't for the cats.
I'm not going to need near as much to get the cats to the vet as I did to get me away from the ex-roomie.

(12,655 posts)which are low to no cost for the rabies shot, which is the biggie, since it is required by law.
salvation army stores (some) have bedding and beds for low cost. also salvation army gives vouchers for one piece of free furniture usually after a fire, but maybe the bed bug situation would qualify for the free bed.
i hope everything works out for you and kitties

(13,661 posts)their vet clinics for my cats' vaccinations for years; I think for rabies and the 4-in-1 shot it totaled $48 per cat. It used to be called the "Luv My Pet" service but now it's "Vetco" at Petco.

If you can save on vaccinations you can afford a better bed

(24,766 posts)I plan on taking Ruby to the Petco Saturday for her shots. Max will go in two weeks.
I have 2 cats, but only one carrier--and that one's broken because in December, my ex-roomie's cat injured her hind paw and we had to take her to the emergency vet. The vet had to break the carrier because she wouldn't come out of it. I'm afraid Max, with his size, might break it even more and escape the carrier.

(14,691 posts)as "insurance" against it breaking when I transport my "two-ton" tabby. I suggest putting some rope or other reinforcement around it. maybe heavy-duty packaging tape?

(24,766 posts)Came in handy when I went food shopping. Now it'll come in handy when I take Max, the giant kitty, to the vet.

(24,766 posts)One day, I might be able to help someone in need. I would prefer to volunteer, but I haven't found any organizations that might need my help. I'm still settling in.

(205,731 posts)I tend to adopt older animals so I sure know about vet bills, so I can identify. Just take care of yourself and the kitties. Giving them a good home - and being comfortable yourself - is all that's important now. And please let us know how you are.

(24,766 posts)My cats got their shots yesterday. I only have one carrier, so I had to make 2 trips to Petco.
I got Ruby there before the store opened. She cried from the moment I put her in the carrier until I brought her home and let her back in the apartment. Then I scooped up Max, brought him to Petco, and lather, rinse, repeat. They're legal until next year.
