"Populace" instead of "people".
"Utilise" instead of "use".
"Whilst" instead of "while".

I'm sure I can think of others, but this will be sufficient to be getting on with the purges.

Example: "We apprehended the perpetrator as he was exiting the edifice."

That was in the 70s. Now everyone talks this way.

George Carlin has a good snippet on you tube re. the corruption of language ( and, by extension, of THOUGHT) achieved via the gradual accretion of syllables. Carlin's most memorable example: 'shell shock' has evolved since WWII to "post-traumatic stress disorder."

The psychology seems to be: "The more syllables I can come up with.... the smarter ( and more convincing) I sound."
