The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsTime again for the annual 'Post your favorite ML Baseball team and......
when they will be statistically eliminated from playoff seasons' here at DU.
Last year my beloved Cincinnati Reds kept in the playoff hunt all first season until All-Star Break when they opted to no longer compete for first place but instead challenging themselves to be the worst team in the NL Central.
Ironically my 2nd favorite team, the Philadelphia Phillies, pretty much stayed in contention for 'Worst team in the National League' all season long.
I'm hoping this year that both teams can stay someone competitive for winning their division or at least a wild card slot at least through the end of Memorial Day. However, it would be nice to cheer on a team in Baseball at least through the start of Football season when I can then turn my attention to how crappy the Philadelphia Eagles will do this year.

(19,089 posts)They won't be elimInated ... They are going all the way to the big dance ... And once again, the Belle of the Ball ....
First Speaker
(4,858 posts)...they'll be a surprise team, with Betts, Bogarts and Bradley--the new "Killer Bs"--all having big seasons, Papi hitting his usual 30 homers, and Shaw doing well at third. Eventually, their pitching will slowly sink them, but they'll hang in until late September, and finish over .500...

(3,065 posts)Maybe they'll do something this year. I'll be happy if they break .500.

(39,343 posts)If we can pick up another starting pitcher before June and no or gets really hurt, I think we could have a shot at .500 ball and maybe a Wildcard spot. Hell, maybe they can knockout the Nats and Mets and win a pennant.
I'm optimistic until at least the All Star break.
Go Marlins.

(14,400 posts)They'll make the playoffs and then sputter in the ALDS or ALCS
If they manage to get some quality pitching that can hold out over time they might surprise. Their offence is looking to be almost as good as last year.

Many of our threads make Tim Tebow cry especially threads where we say what an awful NFL QB he was!
You'll get use to the sarcasm here at DU although honestly, Tim Tebow was an awful NFL QB!

Worst case - Their pitching sucks but their offense allows them to limp to elimination in early September.
