(24,764 posts)There's one a few miles from me, called Petey's Eateys, which make burgers to die for! For $5, you can get a half-pound cheeseburger however you like it. http://www.peteyseateys.com/
If you're ever in Pennsylvania, on your way from the Philly area to the Poconos, get off the Belfast exit on PA 33, make a right at the stop sign, and drive to the intersection. It's on your right.

(7,963 posts)I know that sounds weird, but if u have the tune to have a proper sit down meal, it will never be at an olive garden or red lobster. I like to support my local small business folks. And the food tends to be FAR superior...imho, anyways.

(24,764 posts)You're absolutely right regarding local mom and pop joints. The owners work hard, sometimes 12-16 hours a day, keeping their businesses up and running, and don't make near the amount of money CEO's of chain restaurants do. To top that off, they don't charge much more.

(78,249 posts)The guy does tacos, too. He raves about "Taco Tuesday" at a place in midtown Sac, where he's based. In Northern California, at least, a taco consists of meats and possibly veggies wrapped in a tortilla (flour or corn); a burrito is the same with the addition of rice, beans, and possibly guac and sour cream ("wet burrito" . The crunchy-shell kind most American kids grew up with is all but unheard of out here.

(22,298 posts)& seeing a Whataburger there was an "Oh thank you Baby Jesus!" moment for me. That, & the Chili's in Terminal B are my "go to" spots on long layovers.

(34,136 posts)And one regular order of fries is more than my husband and I can eat.
I like their fries better than any others I've had in town but can only go when it will be my only meal for two or three days!

(70,711 posts)I am in no way compliant with whatever diets, but retain some things: No milk (fat); whole grain;
WhatEVER!1
I'm MEAT and POTATOES. However, am all olive oil, whatever.
BUT my minimal healthy ingesting: "Whataburger" and all the other sick brands make me sick. I can *feel* the (congealed?!1) fat oozing down my throat.
However, I'm not a fanatic about purity. What this means is that I will EAT THE CRAP once in a long while and be SATISFIED *and* REPULSED, then go back to my purity.

(7,963 posts)And now I am on to cheeseburgers. But not for long. It really does make you feel like crap. I've I get nt fill, I will go back to my cleaner diet

(971 posts)Although their fries aren't my favorite, a little too small and greasy, the burgers rule!!!!!
The meat's never frozen, and they cut and prepare everything onsite many times a day.
They also have a pretty good wage/benefits package for their employees.
Just my 2 cents.
