Yojimbo is one of my favorite films,

but damn -- the soundtrack music has ALWAYS irritated me. So awful that it truly detracts from a masterpiece.

I'm on a samurai film kick and I'm rewatching all the greats before diving into some of the lesser-known stuff.

The originals are great, though I did enjoy the 2003 remake, too.

I've never watched the originals but Amazon has the entire series of films to stream, so that's definitely on the list.

I also bought a fifty hour Japanese television (Daichushingura) series from the seventies about the 47 Ronin; I'm almost afraid to start it.

Shintaro Katsu is tremendously entertaining to watch. He's a dumpy, sloppy blind guy of noble character who humbly submits to a bit of verbal abuse from various assorted ruffians until he decides he's had enough, and then proceeds to shish kebab the whole lot of them.

Big body counts in the shows, and one would think a bad guy would think twice trying to charge at him when there are a couple of dozen corpses surrounding him, but nooooooo.

Anyway, highly, highly recommended. The films and shows are a real hoot.
