Are Robins big like pigeons?

I apologize for not taking a photo but I saw a lovely bird in the courtyard of my daughter's apartment complex today. It was about pigeon size, had a red/brown breast, brown-gray wings and back, a black head and a bright yellow beak. It looked like a Robin but I thought they were smaller like sparrows. We live in the Texas Panhandle and all sorts of unlikely birds like seagulls roost here for a time.

It looked a lot like this:

I'd say robins are more svelte than pigeons, but comparable in overall length petronius Apr 2016 #1

I mean, I know we have Robins here because I once found some little broken blue eggs on the ground, under a tree. I just assumed they were small birds. Yay, Robins!

usually mean hatched. If a squirrel or something else got to them they usually won't leave that much evidence.

It had just temporarily let up on the all-day rain we got here.

Robins are very common here (MN). They start singing very early in the morning and wake me up. They are in the thrush family; they aren't quite as big as pigeons but are definitely larger than sparrows.

Also, I'm very near-sighted and rarely see birds clearly unless they're near me. I'm guessing that Robins are pretty common here, I've just never observed one in real life. I always imagined them as small and I'm wrong. This one was hopping around on the ground pecking at it here and there. Perhaps catching worms as it had just rained as mentioned above by TexasBushWacker.

One sees them all the time in the NE. They are much larger than sparrows. About mockingbird size, I'd say. Typically a bit smaller than crows.

I never thought of them as being similar sized to a pigeon. Pigeons have bigger bodies and their heads look disproportionately small. Also they move very differently. Pigeons bob their heads a lot.

Anyway, there are a lot of other Robin species that are the same size and shape of the American Robin. Costa Rica's national bird is the clay-colored robin.
(This might come in handy in a trivia contest.)
