Did you know that Ted Turner paid money out of his own pocket to show Threads on TBS because no American network would show it?

When the Wind Blows is so sad because the elderly couple is so naive.

In WtWB, I think the husband is bluffing/lying the whole time to keep his wife from being afraid (remember he must feel as physically sick as she does). The clue for me is when he's talking to his son at the beginning and makes a joke about him being at the pub.

"Our Ron doesn't drink," the wife says

"Oh... um... certainly not."

That establishes him immediately as someone who wants to lie to protect his wife's feelings.
