The seaside town of Arcachon in southwestern France has been faced with a long-running problem.

Their three-metre statue of Greek mythology's divine hero, Heracles, which was erected in the Parc Mauresque in 1948, keeps getting his penis removed by vandals....

"Considering Heracles' fragile manhood," the town's deputy mayor Martine Phelippot added, "we've chosen to give him a removable prosthetic that we can add to the statue before each ceremony."...

"It's not the perfect solution because obviously men would prefer that part part of their anatomy to be permanent and we understand it's a little annoying for Heracles himself, but given our experience of seeing the organ removed as soon as it's replaced, we think a detachable penis is for the best," Phelippot told The Local.
