https://www.change.org/p/metropolitan-airports-commission-rename-terminal-1-of-msp-international-airport-to-prince-rogers-nelson-terminalPrince, a Minneapolis native, dedicated his life to bringing joy to others through his funky, catchy, and doggedly innovative music. He was a very active and influential supporter of Twin Cities music. And his 7 Grammy wins assure him a prominent place in the pop music Pantheon for the rest of time.
Our institutions should be named in honor the Minnesotans we're most proud of. As a globally recognized and admired musical hero, Prince Rogers Nelson would be a splendid choice to replace Charles Lindbergh as the namesake of our state's busiest airport terminal. Let's make it happen.
Prince also has the advantage of not having been a fascist like Lindbergh.

(12,132 posts)then again. I'd probably have no choice if I had a lot of bags. Have to make 3 trips in a Corvette.
My mom had a 76 Stingray. I'd love to still have that car. She let it fall apart years after I left home and it's rotting in the back 40 of my stepfather's house now (I assume - he never sold or threw anything away if he thought he might be able to use it). Last time I saw it was maybe 7 or 8 years ago the one and only time I visited them at that house (middle of nowhere Texas) and it was just a husk then. Critters living in it, anything perishable long decayed, most of the good engine parts salvaged for other projects.

(13,661 posts)As husband and I were driving by National ("Reagan" Airport the other day he said he thought it should be Miss Piggy's National Airport (and I almost died choking on my coffee).
Not sure why I'm mentioning that, but Prince Airport, Miss Piggy Airport, all of these names are so much better than the stuffy presidential names.
In all seriousness, I do think having the terminal renamed after Prince would be extremely appropriate and a wonderful thing to do. Don't mean to be flippant with the Miss Piggy comment.

(11,843 posts)One would have to rename the Charles Lindbergh terminal to call it the Prince Rogers Nelson Terminal.

(78,249 posts)What was not mentioned were Lindbergh's fascist leanings. Prince, on the other hand, did many progressive things with his fame and fortune, including (we believe) laying $34 million on Oakland, his second-favorite city.

(51,308 posts)His contributions to aviation should be recognized in an airport, whereas Prince can be recognized in many other ways.

(2,900 posts)He didn't do business by his full name any more than Marion Morrison. That would be a sweet tribute.
Also, Lindbergh's father was a Republican Congressman. Jr. was an open admirer of the Nazis, which gained him access to many of their aviation projects in the 30s because Goering admired Lindbergh, who then reported back to the US government. Basically, he spied on the Germans for us. So I cut him a little slack. None for the Duke and Duckess of Windsor, however.
