Dear god, my kid is going to a Trump rally tonight.

Just got home after a fairly long stretch on the road. There is a really good steak house that I like, and after eating fast/truck stop food for pretty much a full month I'm treating myself to a decent meal.

Of course treating myself means the family too. So I text'd my dinner plans to both my kids and here's my son's response.

I advised him not to go. My kid is actually my stepson, and him and his sister are black. A Trump rally is not a healthy place for him, but in a way I'm glad he wants to see things for himself.

I'll worry, but that's what parents do..

I'm probably not the best dad in the world, but since he's not going as a fan, I will assume I didn't totally fuck up the parenting thing.

(And maybe some of it has to do with stirring things up) tells me you probably did a pretty good job. I'm glad my kids were curious agitators.

You probably don't have a choice about worrying some but he sounds like a pretty smart kid.

My wife worries about me because I still go to death-metal shows lol. Been going for 30+ years and the worst thing to happen so far is got beer spilled on me. And it wasn't MY beer so no problem.

I don't think I would worry at this point. Any budding violence has been pretty much squelched after Trump started to get blamed for inciting it.

You made the right call. I'd advise anyone to give any event involving Donald Trump a very wide berth...

I did hear that only one Trump supporter got bloodied up a bit.

10. My kid was home by 10-ish, said there was no way he would be able to get in.

He gave a quick report, that outside the venue anti-Trump people out numbered his fans by 80%. He said it was a little dicey, then the pro-Trump people melted away. I believe Troy and his buddy left once it was apparent they would not be able to attend the rally.

He got a fairly good head on his shoulders, left before stuff got too far out of hand. I'll see if he has anymore details when I talk to him again.

My daughter tried to get in (to protest) but there were too many ANTI Trumps there!

Good thing your son didn't get in any altercations. Those Trump people are a ticking time bomb.
