Schroedinger's Dog:
Can one of you answer for me these 2 questions:
1) How is it that + 18 - 22 pound Jack Russell Terrier sleeping between two humans in a king size bed can, in the middle of the night, morph into a 450 pound Tibetan Mastif?
2) Why is it that said dog refuses to lie lengthwise and instead prefers to keep his front paws on one human while his hind paws are on the other human?

(131,006 posts)Terriers are the rascals of the dog world. Their name comes from the Latin word terra, meaning earth, and references their love of digging for such prey as foxes, moles, badgers, and rats. Terriers come in a wide range of sizes and shapes, but they all share a feisty, mischievous personality and an energetic nature.

(14,881 posts)... perhaps they always sleep on the same axis. Hmmm....have you tried turning the bed?
Paw placement is intended to ensure that nobody encroaches on dog's personal space. Anyone who tries may, at any time, be shoved out of bed and onto floor. Note also that dog's personal space can change throughout the night, so what was once your personal space becomes dog's, and onto floor you go. Believe me, I've been there.
