"Klaatu barada nikto" is a phrase originating in the 1951 science fiction film, The Day the Earth Stood Still. The humanoid alien protagonist of the film, Klaatu (Michael Rennie), instructed Helen Benson (Patricia Neal) that, were anything to happen to him she must say the phrase to the robot Gort (Lockard Martin). In response Gort relented from destroying the Earth and resurrected Klaatu from death."

(2,026 posts)IMHO, there are four science fiction films made during the 1950s that were better than anything Hollywood attempts in that genre nowadays. The Day the Earth Stood Still, War of the Worlds, Forbidden Planet, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers. -- Ron
