National Nutty Fudge
 Day is a day you don’t want to miss if you have a sweet tooth! The earliest recorded evidence of fudge dates back to a letter written in 1886 by Emelyn Battersby Hartridge of Vasser College in Baltimore, USA. Other stories include a college lecturer in Virginia who was teaching toffee making but the temperature wasn’t high enough, resulting in fudge. Another story is that fudge was accidentally invented when a baker was trying to make caramel. International Nurses Day Ever the underdog, nurses play a key role in all of our medical institutions, being responsible for the welfare, safety and recovery of patients. Nurses have an enormous amount of knowledge and many diverse skills they spend years perfecting and developing, all the time working in decidedly tough environments where extreme stress is just a part of the job. Nurses help bring new life into the world, care tirelessly for the sick and injured, and sometimes watch the patients they did everything to save pass away despite their best efforts. On many occasions, it was a vigilant nurse who noticed a mistake in a doctor’s prescription in time to save someone’s life. Limerick Day Named for the Irish city of Limerick, this much loved verse form was popularised by Edward Lear (not invented alas, but ‘popularise’ didn’t scan…) and could date back as much as five hundred years. Its distinctive metre and AABBA rhyming scheme lend themselves well to nonsense verse, and so Limericks are often childish or obscene.
