And they smell heavenly while simmering in spices. Yay!

(20,534 posts)Mine was just minding its own business, hanging with its apple buddies and I snatched it right up. I am a terrible person.

(36,827 posts)I leave the skins on for higher fiber and add a little cinnamon and/or nutmeg and it fills the whole house up with the smell.

(38,019 posts)...seems like just a bit of boiling time from soft apple to mush. I may have to try to make applesauce someday.

(36,827 posts)Depending on how small you cut up the apples and if they are sour or sweet apples.
You don't have to add much water. I add about 1/4 cup for 4-6 apples just to get everything going. Once they have softened, you just hit them with a stick blender until you get the consistency you want. I like them kinda lumpy.
I make them every time I roast a pork loin or tenderloin, or do pork chops.

(11,365 posts)Just cut them up, put them in a covered container, and microwave for a few minutes. Mash after cooking. (I like it lumpy too - so I just use a potato masher.)
I usually add a little lemon juice, and a lot of cinnamon and/or ginger.
