Penalty shoot outs are a necessary evil (and exhausting if you happen to support one of the teams).

While most purists (and I) disagree and think they should either play sudden-death to a resolution or bring back ties...the NHL persists that the best way to settle a long-tied hockey game is a skills competition of penalty shots.

I fucking hate it...and I hate Gary Bettman for thinking it's a good idea. When people petition or complain en-mass, he gets on his high horse and says dumb shit like "Yes, but nobody wants us to bring back the anticlimactic outcome of a tie."

No, fuck you, Gary. That's actually exactly what we want, if you're not going to play real hockey until a winner is determined.

Penalty kicks are the worst way to settle a drawn game except for all the others. I could see he agreed with me and thought there was a lot in it.
