It seems I am in deep legal trouble, of yet an unknown nature

"Hi, this message is intended to contact you. My name is Kevin Mason and I'm calling to contact you regarding an enforcement action executed by the U.S. Treasury.
Ignoring this will be an intentional offense to avoid initial appearance before a Magistrate Judge or a Grand Jury for a federal criminal offense.
My number is: 360-203-0031. I advise you to cooperate with us and help us to help you. Thank you."

The message was in a loop that kept repeating until I stopped it. "kevin" had an Indian accent.

I must say, the first sentence is very interesting.

edited to add: the phone number is from western Washington state outside metropolitan Seattle.

But then again, if you contact the IRS over this, they might decide to run an audit on you just in case "Kevin" was correct.

The IRS will send letters, more letters and then registered letters. I've never heard of the IRS only calling any one.

It might be a hoot to give him a call and waste his time. The scammers can say the funniest things.

Edit: assumed he meant IRS not Treasury as I can't think of any reason they contact people. If they did it would be written.

sometimes they connect you to long distance at the rate of 100 bucks a minute, and our telephone company is not at all helpful in getting charges undone.

He asked her if she was a Nigerian prince
and she wrote back an indigant " I am NOT Nigerian!"
Never contacted him again.
He is so broken hearted over this lost opportunity....

but I think that Kevin got wind of the pending deal and now wants some of that money coming to us.

where the caller says he is an agent of the IRS and I am being criminally prosecuted for fraudulently unpaid taxes (which I don't have any of) and that I must call them back right away or the police will come to my home and arrest me. I've reported these calls to the real IRS (you can report online). The IRS will never contact you by telephone even if you do owe taxes - you get a registered letter - and you won't be arrested for anything until after a long legal process. I guess some people must actually believe these scams, which is sad.

but this week have several calls I do need to answer.

there is talk of the phone companies being pressured to do something about these damn robo calls, but I would not be surprised to find the telcos are getting a kickback, just like they do get when someone adds a 3rd party bill to your phone bill and the telephone company proclaims their inability to take the charge off unless you end up raising holy hell.

yesterday I got a call from Credit Card Services, not that there is anything wrong with my cards but they want to help me get lower interest rates (right).

I pressed 1 for human contact and when I told him I was on the do not call list he called me all kinds of profane names I hope they recorded that one for training purposes.
