I can't sleep and it's 11:40 pm. Normally I would get up and putter, but my dog is on the bed with me. She is 15 and weighs 75lbs (so I can't really move her). Today she had her teeth cleaned and she is still woozy from the anesthesia.
Well she has arthritis and coupled with the wooziness, she is really having a tough time moving around. Little stubborn girl..she mustered up all her energy and hurled herself up on the bed. Now she has her head on my pillow and is snoring next to me.
She is a Lab mix, so she is part Velcro dog. If I get up, she'll get up. If I putter, she will follow me around..and literally tonight she has been dragging herself, those back legs not working well.
99% of the time I am ready to sleep whenever wherever, except now. Sigh. Send snacks pls and maybe an extra pillow.

(16,386 posts)Might as well accept your fate. Don't wake your poor pup. She's had a bad day.

(3,702 posts)She's at the age that if she is startled, she leaks. I've been that age for awhile now.

(3,702 posts)Well, I won't be digging any trenches - I have a bathroom in here. She usually can sleep through that...lol

(205,840 posts)Hope your pup feels better soon. And that you've been able to get some sleep now, too.

(3,702 posts)Although, she seems to realize that she can milk this for all its worth. She hasn't been eating since the before her dental cleaning (Friday night). Saturday was ok because she really was too woozy. By Sunday evening I was worried.
She WILL eat if food is placed directly in front of her, on a small plate sprinkled with just a bit of Parmesan cheese.
This morning I stuffed her uneaten breakfast in a Kong toy...she approved. But first there was a belly rub and some brushing.
She has earned it - and I like it when she puts her paw on me when I have stopped rubbing her and gives me the "you're not done look" and puts her head back down and sighs when I resume.
Sorry for the rambling reply - she just cracks me up.

(3,702 posts)Her legs aren't as bad as they were yesterday. She is incredibly determined (stubborn?) so that helps her.
She was out in the yard basking in the sun - she has black fur, so she must just soak in the heat and it must feel good on the old bones. We have 5 dog beds distributed around the living room and dining room - of various thickness and support, and they are all big ones. She still wants the couch - which isn't that comfy anymore.
I love her so much - she is just so awesome (and stubborn - did I mention stubborn?)

(3,702 posts)That is how I was last night - knowing that disturbing her would hurt her, I knew I couldn't get up. Which of course meant I started thinking of a 100 reasons why, at that moment, I WANTED to get up. Lol
Normally, I would have watched Netflix and just waited to fall asleep - but I just got really restless last night.
I act like a spoiled child way more than I would like to admit.
