(33,525 posts)...has vanished and finally, after a long time, you know who you are, what's it's like to know love - a wonderful time.
I became a father in my forties, twice, and it was the best thing, other than marrying my wife, that I ever did, because finally I was mature enough to be a father and to appreciate the beauty of children.
It was a little more physically challenging, but definitely the right time.
The alternative to growing old, by the way, is dying young. I suppose I will die soon enough, but for me, the years I was in my forties were purely wonderful and definitely a time that made me understand that life is very much worth living.
