National Corn Fritters Day Where would we be without corn fritters? This simple, unassuming dish is comfort food heaven. Add your favorite condiment to a corn fritter and thats some good eating right there. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/corn-fritters-day/World Snake Day Snakes have gotten something of a bad rap over the past few thousand years. What with that one snake tricking that nice lady nice lady into eating an apple way back when, thus condemning the entire human race to mortality, snakes have been mistrusted if not flat-out feared. And while it is understandable that people may fear an animal that can easily kill them, we think these fascinating, diverse creatures that range from several inches to 30 feet long, and from friendly and docile to aggressive and deadly, deserve for people to find out more about them. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/world-snake-day/
Guinea Pig Appreciation Day Theyre some of Americas favorite pets, those small and fuzzy animals that are known as the guinea pig. The Guinea Pig stands as one of the worlds longest domesticated animals, having been domesticated in South America for up to 5000 years. While most of the world may think of them as an adorable pet along the lines of a rat, they have far more in common with the bunny rabbit. You see, in Peru, theyre a staple of their diet, and have been since time out of mind. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/guinea-pig-appreciation-day/

(205,505 posts)He got it from a child down the street whose mother wouldn't let him keep the poor little thing. My brother was quite devoted to Ginger, LOL. I don't know if Ginger was a him or a her, but looked just like this one:

(38,958 posts)the poor little rascal. I never had one but multiple allergies prevented us from having pets as a kid. We had a Chihuahua for a few years and that didn't seem to bother them too badly, but nothing beyond that.
At this point in my life I really don't want to care for a pet and hence don't have any. Always take time to visit with the neighbors Rot when out cutting the grass or watering the flowers. Pearl is a nice dog and she seems to enjoy the attention as her Mom keeps her outside most of the time.

(205,505 posts)I desperately wanted a pet when I was a kid, mostly had goldfish and turtles and frogs. But then my Dad got us a puppy and you can guess whose dog she turned out to be. My aunt and uncle got my Dad a book on training cocker spaniels - my uncle always trained his own dogs. But I was the one who read the book and ran out of things to teach her.
I have both a dog and a cat now. My dog was a "pet shop rescue," found me at five months and he just turned 10. And I found my cat as a tiny kitten in a grocery store parking lot and he's grown up into a beautiful cat, IMO. My guys seem to find me...

(205,505 posts)You'd think the teachers would be responsible enough to ask the parents ahead of time. I had saved my lab rat from psych class in college, so my brother inherited the cage. It's not a good way to teach kids to care for animals, which was probably the point of having an animal in class, if they just send them home with no preparation...

(1,395 posts)in these scary times. Bring on the corn fritter parties! I might skip the snake parties, though.

(38,958 posts)The times are more than a bit peculiar, but we have to try to find that silver lining in the clouds.

(28,394 posts)My son had one when he was a pre-schooler. It would sit up and chirp for food. I have also had several "rescue" hamsters. I love little critters.
Probably a good idea to keep them away from all those "Snake Day" celebrations, though!
