The top five most surprising stories about Pokémon Go ... so far

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/jul/12/top-five-most-outlandish-pokemon-go-stories

Did you hear the one about the Wyoming girl who stumbled across a dead body while catching Pokémon by a river?

Catching cheating boyfriends, stumbling across dead bodies and advertising one’s services as a professional Pokémon Go trainer – less than a week since the launch of the virtual-meets-real-world app Pokémon Go and the stories it has sparked are kookier than the names of the critters its fans are trying to catch.

Cheating boyfriend
Evan Scribner, a resident of Sunnyside, Queens, told the New York Post that his girlfriend spotted his infidelities after accessing his Pokémon Go app and noticing that he’d caught a Pokémon in the exact location of his ex-girlfriend’s house in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

“She saw that I had caught a Pokémon while at my ex’s house,” Scribner told the Post. “She found out last night at my house and hasn’t contacted me since then.”

Professional Pokémon trainer
No time to spend your summer days walking the streets in search of Pokéstops when you also have a real job? No problem. Craigslist ads are now popping up for Pokémon trainers, with prices in New York City ranging from $20-30 per hour.

Arthur, a 26-year-old lifelong Pokémon fan, is offering his services for $25 per hour:

Could be a career option for some enterprising individuals.

but it would be cool to get paid to have fun on behalf of someone else

It's similar to dog walkers or babysitters I suppose. I'm not sure if pokemon need care and attention. I haven't played.

We discussed setting up voter registration booths at popular Pokestops, purchasing a lure pack (lures rare Pokemons to your location), then tweeting that we will have lures set up for certain time periods, so come out, register to vote and catch some Pokies. Bet we get a TON of retweets and sign up a bunch of young voters

The DNC has been doing a lot of registration drives at college campuses and neighborhoods in swing states where lots of young people live and work. I've seen them in northern virginia many times. It might be good near high schools too for students who will be 18 by election time.

I think we need to get on it fast, before the mania passes. Since most of the Pokestops are landmarks on public property, I think we can be there legally and not get hassled. Churches are also popular, and I think quite a few will give permission for us to be there. Hoping we can get a few of the young interns on it this week, at least see if the idea works.

This is what a P-Go Meetup looked like last night in my city. Thousands attended, majority millennial-aged. A key demographic and very under-represented at the polls.

you're a loser, in my book. And that goes for several people in this thread.

And it's genuinely helping people, and some people want to be jerks towards them. Wow, how edgy. /sarc

I'm not about to go wandering all over town staring at my phone, but I've managed to catch a Bulbasaur in my living room, a Pidgey in a friend's back yard, and a Weedle and a Zubat at a nearby coffee shop!

The parents are beyond thrilled about it too.

My own daughter is very fit, but a bit timid. I fixed her very neglected bike yesterday so she could ride around and check out all the Pokestops in the area. This from a kid hates talking to strangers and wants me to drive her everywhere, so I was happy that she was taking the initiative to be more independent.

I also play, and I can def say that my dog LOVES this game. We are off to lap the neighborhood, see if I can get my 5k egg to hatch before it gets dark!
