Daily Holidays August 7

Friendship day was originally founded by Hallmark in 1919. It was intended to be a day for people to celebrate their friendship by sending eachother cards, but by 1940 the market had dried up, and eventually it died out completely. However, in 1998 Winnie the Pooh was named the world’s Ambassador of Friendship at the United Nations (believe it or not!), and in April 2011 the United Nations officially recognised 30th July as International Friendship Day; although most countries celebrate on the first Sunday of August! https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/friendship-day/

Lighthouse Day A light that shines in the darkness to protect and alert. Sounds like something one would say about that friend or mentor whom helps us in the hardest of times, but alas, this is not that reference. This is a reference to the silent, but bright, guardians of our coastlines and ships, the majestic lighthouse. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/lighthouse-day/

Particularly Preposterous Packaging Day Have you ever battled vainly to open a tightly sealed bottle of tablets – only to end up with a sprained wrist and an even worse headache? Particularly Preposterous Packaging Day aims to lift the lid on this kind of problem. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/particularly-preposterous-packaging-day/

India Pale Ale Day Get ready to raise a glass and celebrate India Pale Ale Beer Day. This annual occasion aims to increase appreciation of one of the world’s most popular types of craft beer, using social media to spread the word. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/india-pale-ale-day/

Maine, for preference.

At 91, it's unlikely she'll get to fulfill that dream.

It was historic and beautiful, and as it was in Maine, cooking lobsters there only seemed to make it even better.

I imagine much of the quality of life depends on the owners of the big house. A couple of women I knew in grad school lived in an apartment that had been converted from a grain silo by some very rich people on their huge estate. The gentleman was a M.F.H., and the barking of twenty couple of beagles could distract one from her studies.

They had a kitten that was no bigger than the palm of your hand, and one day the little beastie ventured into the wide world for the first time... jumped up to the top of the stone pen in which the hounds were kept... and just about had a heart attack.

... able to read a book, watch TV, crochet a sweater and carry on a phone conversation all at the same time, and still yell "Stop teasing the cat" from two rooms away.

I don't know if that model is still even in production.
