The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI really have a new job this time. No, really I do. I'm serious. I start tomorrow.
For those of you following the saga of the jobless Tobster, somebody actually hired me. I've posted about probably having a new job twice recently only to have the offers vanish. When I had the offer this time, I decided not to post about it on social media until I had an employee number and a fuel card (I'm a trucker). Tomorrow I go on my first run. It's a relay and the truck is already on its way. I am officially employed.
On Wednesday afternoon, I headed out of my hometown in Indiana for some little burg out in the bean fields of Illinois. I went through orientation there at a small terminal for my new company. Everything went well and now I'm back at the house. My wife and I are going to celebrate this evening after she gets off work. I feel so relieved. We have family who can help us out, but I hate asking for it. Now the bank account will start going back in the right direction and we will have good insurance again. I get benefits right out of the gate which is excellent. I'll work about 42 hours in four days and then I'll be off for three days. If I need more money, they say I can pick up extra work sometimes. It's a really good job.

(10,418 posts)I carry a camera with me when I'm on the road for both safety reasons and for capturing interesting sites. I used to post a lot of trucking threads about my adventures out there complete with pictures. I might start doing that again.

(3,286 posts)Most trucking companies are becoming quite sensitive about their public image in this age of social media and would probably worry that a man hired to drive a truck has been seized by the inspiration to do public relations work as well.
However, if you blur out the company name in your photographs you should be safe. You already know to watch what you say.
Sounds like a good job. Looking forward to the pics...
