Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsIs there a law that mall food courts must have a "Bourbon Chicken" restaurant?
Every other thing in a mall food court is something you see elsewhere: gyros, pizza, tacos, burgers, Chinese. But "bourbon chicken" or "cajun chicken" is as far as I've seen only found in mall food courts.
I can't swear that I've ever seen somebody in line for it (there's no need, since they shove a little piece of chicken on a toothpick in your face every time you walk by).
I'm not clear what about the sauce is "bourbon" or "cajun"; it seems like soy sauce and brown sugar.
Despite being branded as "cajun" and having jambalaya as a side, they are invariable run by people of East Asian descent.
What is the history of the Bourbon Chicken stall? Why is it in food courts, and nowhere else?

Also, it's hotter today in DC than Mumbai. That's just messed up.

(45,447 posts)they need something to differentiate their stir fried chicken and rice dishes from the others.
I don't trust mall food courts anymore. They are just nasty, greasy, and who knows how old their ingredients are.
Whoa, I guess it's a thing. Cajun-themed Chinese. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bourbon_chicken
Bourbon chicken is a dish named after Bourbon Street in New Orleans,[citation needed] Louisiana and for the bourbon whiskey ingredient. The dish is commonly found at Cajun-themed Chinese restaurants.
The recipe includes soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger, and bourbon whiskey in the base, and the chicken is marinated in this sauce.

(7,347 posts)Used to see Tandoori Chicken joints in mall food courts all over until the Bourbon brood revolution. A fowl scene that was, a total fustercluck.
And that, my friend, is the roost of the story.
