In 1997, we visited the first exchange student we hosted. She and her friends drove us from Sao Paulo to Rio, other cities and towns, and made sure we had a wonderful experience. It was my first trip out of the U.S. except for a vacation to Canada, and I fell head over heels for the whole country, even though we saw only a tiny bit of it.

The other, a bunch of us sitting at an outside cafe in Ipanema, at 1 in the morning, discussing the meaning of an American rock and toll song. I can't remember which one.
