Thanks for being open enough to let me share some tunes with you.
I'm on SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/dylanbriscall
All the songs on Early Mornings, Late Nights, and Long Roads were written and composed by me and were produced by Joel Kazmi--whos worked with artists like The Tea Party, Rush, Nsync, Sum 41, and Anne Murray.
If you don't want to listen that is absolutely cool and if you can recommend some new music or mention any great shows you've seen lately, that would be great.
Cheers!

(4,279 posts)Strong vocals and guitar work. Songwriting is an elusive craft and you seem to have the gift. Hope to hear more from you.
BTW, welcome to DU.

(165 posts)Frankly I wasn't looking forward to hearing yet another tune by another singer songwriter, but I honestly enjoyed the song. After 50 + years in the music biz and 25 years of attending the Kerrville Folk Festival sometimes I just get enough of the 'music' that gets played. That being said, I thought the mix was intelligent, but the clicks were distracting and way too hot. Pull them down in the mix more and you might actually have a 'new' percussion sound ( like the 13th Floor Elevators' electric jug). I would add a plastic shaker egg to carry the rhythm. I listened on a JBL flip. I thought the voice was a bit crisp, but the harmony helped that out. For your voice on stage I would recommend the 58A and get in tight on it, it will enhance the low end. OK, enough of MHO and ramblings from an over the hill dinosaur. Peace/out!

(11,563 posts)BTM had a lot of good technical advice, and I agree with him...at least on the parts that I feel informed enough to agree with. I can add nothing worth hearing about gear - I am more of a dinosaur than he claims to be. Hung up my playing shoes a lot time ago.
Your voice is distinctive, which is a great thing, IMO. I enjoyed it more when there was more background and harmony, though. I really, really liked the sound of the guitar. It was bright without being twangy or shrill and sounds like a real quality instrument.
The only real negative comment is the same as his - that clicking, popping percussion. I would like that rhythm a lot softer-sounding, and at a lower volume. I don't know what a plastic shaker egg is exactly, but the name is pretty descriptive. I picture something like cooler-sounding maracas.
Hope this is some help to you...and best of luck on your road forward.

(3,424 posts)I think you are a very good singer. Your voice reminded me of Gene Pitney from back in the 1960 era. He was a very popular and wonderful singer. My favorite song by him is "Only Love Can Break A Heart".
Thank you everyone for the incredibly kind words of everybody and taking the time to listen!
