(13,447 posts)Instead, I'll say "The Girl Next Door" which was marketed as another teen comedy but was actually a very good thriller about a kid that suddenly has to deal with an evil pimp, played awesomely by Timothy Olyphant.

(48,217 posts)An older friend of mine saw it when it first came out and still remembered certain scenes 55 years later!
The only thing that bothered me was the dubbing of the little girl's voice and the fact that her hairstyle made her look like a poodle.

(32,094 posts)Yeah, it was technically a "kid's movie", but to me, it was really a movie about baseball and growing up, the latter of which was one of the themes of "Stand By Me". I'm willing to bet that adults enjoyed it more than the kids who saw it.

(5,364 posts)Very warped/dark humor. The victorian in a modern times set looks very Tim Burton-esque. Jim Carey is chill inducing ( yet funny ), plus very good acting form the early teen actors as they try to stymie him in an adult world that's bunglingly bureaucratic.
