Is coming back in the next life as a house cat an upgrade or a downgrade?
Based on my critters lifestyle I gotta think being a cat is where it is at.

(21,849 posts)It is about your soul learning a necessary lesson or paying karmic debts, as I understand it. I could see being reincarnated as a cat would allow your soul to learn how to indulge oneself or to learn what it feels to be abused by a human. But don't put much weight on what I said. My understanding of reincarnation is rudimentary.
BTW I believe that most reincarnation theories do not include reincarnating as different species.

(36,827 posts)I'm not sure about all the different takes on the prevalence of all the takes on reincarnation, but the one the most people are familiar with is the Buddhism idea of karma and reincarnation which includes coming back as a human or animal, among other things.

Cats reincarnate, but they're on their own track. In other words, you can't skip from human to cat. Cats reincarnate for the same reasons we do--to gain experience in the material, or tangible world.
However, there is a famous case of a guy who recalled being a horse. He had vivid memories of being a horse and had an uncommon insight and understanding of how to deal with horses. It's a pretty interesting story; I heard about it on Coast to Coast. It is a case that gathered a lot of interest at C2C. If you went to their web site and did a search under "horse reincarnation," you'd probably find it easy enough.
There's a very extensive book out by a woman who wrote about animal reincarnation. She is convinced it happens because of her experience with rats. Now, you may not like rats but a lot of people do. This particular woman really liked ratsand adopted lots of them. They dont' live very long, though--just a few years--and she was heartbroken when she would lose one of her rat budidies.
She noticed that a new rat exhibited some behaviors of a rat she had lost many years ago. Eventually, she employed an animal communicator who confirmed this was indeed the reincarnation of her earlier rat buddy. There's more to this story, but it's too long to type out. Wish I could recall the name of the book, but I have a copy and haven't been able to find it for years.
