I'm watching a family of Gambel's quail in my front yard

They are having their Thanksgiving dinner on our prickly pear fruits.

We have such a big crop this year (and WE never use them) all the quail in the neighborhood are super fat right now!

They are so adorable!

She does like to challenge anyone in "her" space but when they came after her she "got the behind me" faster than Satan! LOL! Smart enough to know when to be a chicken!

They moved off, I think, only because I am a bigger turkey than they were, and the arm waving might have made them believe I'm even fatter than I actually am!

They are quite tall, those turkeys--it's surprising how big those so-and-so's are !!! They're fairly formidable in a group, too!

My sister got attacked by a goose back when she was a toddler, and the goose was about the same size.

Scared the pee out of her! And I don't blame her!

That's awesome that you have a laid-back terrier! It says all kinds of good things about you!

That was back when we could move at a faster clip than we can now. They're aggressive as hell!

We just got lucky with our little fart--she was a rescue who had medical issues as a pup, and no one wanted to take them on, but she was well worth two operations. I think all the extra care and fussing in her early years made her sweet--she's been with us for ten years now and she has always been good natured and gentle.
