Cat saves two people after fire breaks out in San Mateo home

The cat was rescued and the owner took it to an emergency veterinarian clinic as firefighters set to put out the fire in the attic.
Novelli said according to the owner's boyfriend, the cat woke him up by meowing and making a lot of noise. The cat had bells on its neck....
"The cat was actually the saving grace," Novelli said.

Many years ago my cat woke me up in the middle of the night, hollering like a banshee. It was really hot in the house and I realized that the thermostat had gone haywire and the furnace wouldn't shut off. A fire could have started but the cat woke me up so I could turn off the heat. He was a good kitty, too.
