That said, I think the test was designed to benefit those who are good at multiple choice tests. Many times at least two of the answers can be immediately discarded.
Also this test doesn't actually test the actual usage of words. I may have been able to remember the definition of the word salubrious, but this is the first time I've ever used it in a sentence.

(60,010 posts)When I was quite little, my Grandmother had one of those huge Miriam Webster dictionaries on a stand in her house, and when I was there, sometimes for the whole summer, I would read as many words as I could..
today I have that dictionary and stand, and my kids used it when they were small.

The weird thing is that it's usually obvious what they are talking about. It leaves you thinking, "yeah, that word just sounds right."
I think it's some clue about the origins of languages. Certain people are catalysts for the creation and evolution of languages.
