Licorice All-Sorts complaints

My wife and I indulge in the occasional bag (or box, which usually contains a couple of bags).

1) Why don't they reduce or dump the solid black ones without any candy coating? Most people I know don't eat them. My dad used to clean up on them when I was young. He was the only one in the family that consumed them.

2) Why are there never enough of these ones:

I made a mistake and bought 'real' black licorice, and it gave me a headache???

Bur I love me some black twizzlers...why they made red ones is beyond my comprehension!

P.S. I prefer the Queens English spelling...theatre

that black licorice can make your heart race? I ate a bunch of all-sorts one day and while out on a walk later my heart was palpitating in a way that caused me concern. I had never experienced it before and when I got home I looked up possible causes. I happened to stumble upon a connection between licorice and my symptom. It turns out black licorice has an ingredient that lowers potassium and can lead to temporary irregular heartbeat.

Something about too much caffeine. I lost my taste for it anyway.

Mrs Obvious and I both like the pink and blue dots as well, and dislike the pink and yellow eyeballs, while the black ones are just ok. I've told her if I she and I were truly compatible, she'd prefer the pink and yellow eyeballs and dislike the pink and blue dots, but alas....

"Pink and yellow eyeballs"

I know exactly which ones you are talking about. I like those ones, actually. My wife calls the dotted variety the "bally ones."

I was working with the Greek consulate office in Houston to get a film for the Houston Film Festival back in '91. They got the film for me and delivered it with a big bottle of Ouzo. I tried it, but didn't like it. It's clear, but turns milky white when mixed with ice or water.

I had it at a (somewhat fancy) bar and they asked if I wanted it the "proper" way? I was killing time until the others showed up and it was slow at that point so the bartender and I had discussion and I learned that a couple, three coffee beans in a martini glass, with chilled Sambuca was the "proper" way. It was good that way.

The Ouzo I've had maybe was not the good stuff, I thought it was kind of nasty.

Then there is Raki, which I like neat, but the Turkish style is to add a little water and it turns milky - They call it Tiger Milk. IMO, it's much better without the water. My little brother's Turkish in-laws were saying that it would be horrible straight, but I liked it better that way.

was happy they started selling all black jelly beans at some point. I also love Good & Plenty and will pick some up every now and then when I need a licorice fix. Haven't had any heart racing issues so far.

If those were left out, they wouldn't be "allsorts", they'd be "manysorts"? ... "mostsorts"? ... "somesorts"?

and it irritates me when my food is flavored with anise or fennel too.

My wife always gets red Twizzlers at the movies but I don't understand why they call it red licorice. There's nothing licoricey about them. It's just sweet, red candy. I don't like them either. Goobers are the only good movie candy.

but yeah. And I probably wouldn't even stop at Wal-greens on the way to the movies except almost all my theaters around here stopped selling Goobers. They still have Twizzlers and Milk Duds and even gross little rat-turd Raisinettes but no Goobers?! I don't know why they dumped them but I'm having some damn Goobers at my movies.

I still get their ridiculous nachos though.

that's the whole idea behind "Allsorts".

Whenever I get a mix of treats (bag candy, sampler of chocolates) I always try to eat the least favorite ones first, and save the best for last. If it's a good mix, working your way to the very last one can become quite a production, and the anticipation quite exquisite. The potential downside is that the finale may disappoint. :^/

I have no financial interest in this business, but it is located in my hometown. Fun store to go into, licorice from all over the world and all different kinds.
