I got my CB hooked up in time to catch a lively political conversation.
You don't hear the liberal view very often on the CB radio. Most truckers seem to be of the conservative persuasion. I think a lot of it has to do with the rise of conservative domination of the talk radio airwaves- mostly on the AM side but I've noticed recently that they are starting to creep in on the FM side as well. I hate talk radio. I don't even like to listen to liberals on the radio. When I'm cruising down the road, I like music. Talk radio is a buzz kill.
Anyway, I got my CB radio hooked up in my car and drove up by the highway to check it out. It was receiving a standard signal well four miles away from the interstate. That's the important thing to me. I listen to the CB more than I talk on it. I heard these truckers arguing about politics on there. Like I said, you don't hear the liberal view represented much on the CB, but there was one driver out there today who was fighting the good fight.
One driver was bad-mouthing Obama, calling him a Muslim and an embarrassment to the country. Typical redneck stuff rooted in racism and fear. The liberal driver got on there and tried to remind him of where the country was when Obama first took office- auto and banking industry going under, economy in the can, sky high unemployment, stock market under 8000, etc. The conservative driver responded by saying that the liberal driver was stupid and by not really addressing what was said- it was all lies according to him. The bad place the country was in when Obama took office was the result of Democratic policy and nothing the Bush administration did.
When you can't even acknowledge the facts of the matter, you are pretty much detached from reality. And that's exactly where those conservative talk radio show guys want you to be.
