My boyfriend's moms dog Guinness has had some trying times recently, and I've had a lot of support from the lizards, thank you. He has had a wonderful recovery, despite his head being a bit......off. He has gotten up, walked around, and even snapped at the other dog to tell him "no, my food!" It's good to see him back to his ornery self. I myself haven't slept properly in 4 days, afrade he might accidentally fall down the stairs.
A lot of DU's have come to our aid, with advice, wishful tidings, and prayers.
I just wanted to say thank you, it ment a lot.
Off script....how do I post pics of him? Btw, I don't Facebook or twitter.....

(205,537 posts)It's simple to start a free account and you can upload any photo that you have on your computer. Then you just post the direct link, though I always "preview" a post with a photo to see how it'll look. And if I can figure it out, it can't be too complicated... The first photo I got help posting was one of my dogs.

I did read your thread and agree that you got such helpful advice. As for worrying about the stairs, I had the same problem when my dog (age 18) developed problems seeing. What I did was put in a gate at the top of the stairs and that worked well. The one I got had a door that we could open, but the dog obviously could not.
That's great news about Guinness! Hoping that he continues to recover...

(205,537 posts)What a cutie! Actually, he reminds me of my beloved dog who also had issues with stairs. He was a Cairn Terrier and he lived to 18 1/2...
And I had never posted on any message board, either, before I found DU. I totally freaked out when I got a reply on my very first post, had no idea what to do! But it turned out to be just a very friendly welcome to DU...

(1,756 posts)He's doing even better today.....growling, snorting, all the things that used to annoy me, and I couldn't be happier. His head is still cocked to to the side hard, and I'm told that will never change, and his poor tongue will never rest in his mouth. His equilibrium is also off for life, but aside from that he's completely back to normal.
He's 14, and that's like methuselah on dog years. On the other hand, his young "friend" Marley (who was at Guinness's side the whole time he was bedridden) is barely a year old. Guinness loathes him. He tolerated him the entire time he couldn't tell him to fuck off, but now he's back to his old ornery self. Poor Marley. He thought he made a friend. During the week that Guinni was derelict I forgot what what an asshole he was. And I'm so glad he's back to that.
Thanks for the support...
This month has sucked Nile-silt encrusted hippopotamus balls, and this impromptu tragedy with Guinni hasn't helped. The extra love has gone a long way, and is very much appreciated.
Btw, thanks for the photo bucket tip.....
Heres Marley:

(205,537 posts)That's such a great photo, he's looking straight at the camera, something I have always had trouble getting my dogs to do. I don't use a flash, so I don't know what it is, but if I try to photograph my dog, he always looks the other way. The exception is when we're coming back from the groomer or the vet, he's just so glad to be in the car going home, so the best - and happiest - pix of my dog are in my car...
And I do understand about older dogs since I've adopted senior dogs on my life. They do come with their own sets of issues, often health related, but you do what you have to and it sounds like you're doing a very good job. Guinness is very fortunate to have you...
And I sure agree about this month. It seems like everyday there's some new offense or crisis and I feel sick half the time, too. But you're in the right place here since we're all in this together and that really does help. It makes all the difference to know you're not alone...
Keep up the great work with the pix! We love seeing the pups! That's one thing about DU, we love animals...
