market soon I am going to die! You think I'm exaggerating? I'm NOT! Well...not much anyway.
Anyone else ticked off by this? We have people coming in begging to buy the little packets we sell at the store...only I bought them out a month ago. Waaahhhh!

(30,765 posts)What is in it? I can only take acetaminophen, Tylenol.

(68,918 posts)Bufferin, and Gas-X. Also a fear that some of the medications, not to mention opiates that are produced at the same lab, might have been put into the wrong bottles. Excedrin Migraine contains Acetaminophen, Aspirin and caffeine. I am only supposed to take acetaminophen as well (HBP/arrhythmia) but it is the only thing OTC that works on my headaches and RA troubles. A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do when her health insurance co. drops her and the high risk pool is the price of a mortgage on a $245K house.
It's killing me that they've been out for four months. The generics are just crap.

(12,681 posts)Goody's powders are the same as BC. They're both better than the generic, and tend to hit the system quicker because they're powders. One powder twist is the same as two Excedrin.
For the time being, this might help, but a lot depends on whether or not you're able to handle dumping the powder on your tongue without gagging before you down it with a chaser drink. (Which is why Excedrin was developed; people couldn't handle the powders and wanted a pill form.)
Walgreens and Rite-Aid carry both BC and Goody's.
Good luck, I know how you feel. After years in the shipyards, I wake up with seriously nasty "sunrise" sinus headaches that only a night-time dose of Caffeine, Acetaminophen, and Aspirin can fix. (Basically, if I'm still asleep when the sun comes up on a dry or sunny morning, I wake up with horrible sinus headaches from the early morning evaporation cycle - doesn't happen on cloudy mornings, just sunny mornings.)

(6,206 posts)It helps with my headaches far better than anything else on the market. When it comes back I plan on purchasing several bottles.

(55,025 posts)Acetaminophen 250 mg Pain reliever = 1/2 a 500 mg tab
Aspirin 250 mg Pain reliever = bit less than one 325 mg tab
Caffeine 65 mg Pain reliever aid = various products (or beverages) http://www.google.com/search?q=Caffeine+tablits&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US fficial&client=firefox-a

(68,918 posts)It just seems to be the generic painkillers.
And then, on edit, (boy is my face RED )... Generic Brad is by far the best generic out there. He's even better than the branded Brads out there.

(55,025 posts)but eventually got poor enough to get over it. Now I refuse to pay for brand name of almost anything. If the generic is a bit old and not as effective I just take three or four instead of two.
My last hold-out was real Clorox. Mother was a Clorox devote and it was hard to give up but I finally did.
You are probably benefiting from a very real placebo effect - and that is a good thing! bad headaches deserve to be treated with WHATEVER works!

(102,379 posts)Excedrin is merely caffeine, aspirin and acetominophen (tylenol)
Safeway sells an identical product under their packaging, as does Kroger, Walgreens and just about any other store. Excedrin is just the best known brand and was pulled temporarily because they had quality control issues. I can assure you the generic versions work just as well. I'm picky, but this is not one that concerns me with respect to buying a non-branded option.
Don't stress. You'll get a headache.
Edited for typos... My own personal headache...LOL

(68,918 posts)only one that sort of helps is the Walgreen's generic. Possibly it is all in my head, ( ) but none of them works as well as Excedrin.

(102,379 posts)meds in general, but if you don't want a no name generic you can simply take the three components separately--same difference. what I can tell you, though, is that because all these ingredients are basically cheap, that that alone is a reason not to worry about generics--nothing to be gained by "shorting" on any key ingredients. So, yes, i think it is "in your head", but I understand. There are some food products that i just can not make myself buy anything other than the "name" brand--LOL
Any who... if you want to just create your own "excedrin":
Take 250 mg acetaminophen (that is a little less than a single strength tylenol)
250 mg aspirin (regular aspirin, like Bayer is 325 mg. Low dose, suggested for cardiac prevention purposes is 81 mg)
65 mg caffeine (you can buy caffeine tabs that are usually 100 mg or just drink a regular cup of brewed coffee)
Since this is the content of each excedrin tablet (and you normally, as an adult, would take 2), then double the above to recreate the same effect..... Or simply buy the generics.
Really. That is ALL it is... I agree that the combination is very effective--and I'm a migraine sufferer. But, it truly is not a unique formulation.

(68,918 posts)Right now we're doing the BC powders with two Tylenol. Still not as effective but it will have to do.

(102,379 posts)Here's basically what they are saying:
While we do not have a set date, we have estimated that we could resume shipping Excedrin® as soon as mid-year. We are working diligently to get Excedrin® back onto store shelves and are committed to keeping loyal Excedrin® fans informed of the progress we are making.
Novartis Consumer Health appreciates the patience of our loyal consumers throughout this process, and apologizes for any inconvenience this voluntary recall may have caused.
Try the Safeway generic if you have them near you. It really does work identically for me. It is possible some of the formulations you've tried were not formulated to be absorbed the same as excedrin and that alone might explain your own experience with them not working. I've noted the price on the generics has gone way up since Excedrin has been pulled. That alone is reason for me to be anxious for its return.
