If only I had the time, money, space, tools, and skills to do such a thing.

But just imagine a Pinto with Tesla-like performance.

one a school bus orange/yellowish wagon. I really did like the car and had it for years.

The other we bought used it was a hatchback with the big glass hatch window and I liked it as well, but it was what my Charming Ex-Wife, The Dragon Lady drove.

I had a Spyder as weil, except it was a Fiat Sypder Coupe again in the charming school bus yellow/orange. I was on a first name basis with AAA to come get the thing started. I was cool, but what a dog....

So she ended up getting a Plymouth Duster. And I dodged a bullet, too, since I ended up inheriting that car 10 years later...

A friend had an orange Yugo. He called it LOPOS, or Little Orange Piece of Shit. He got one of the first cell phones, so when it broke down, he could call a tow truck.

There's a legend about the Trabant. After the wall fell, an ad appeared that said, "Have new Trabant. Will trade for a second hand Volkswagen that runs."

They all ran great and took quite a lot of neglect. If my memory serves me correctly I don't think the wagons had the same explosive issue as the hatchbacks either.

Now OTOH a Vega I'd agree with. That was hands down the absolute worst running car out of many used cars I owned in my younger days.

Maybe if GM had used that engine in all of their Vegas the model would have had a bit better a rep and done better.

I suppose it might not have been as bad a model car for someone who lived in a flatter, less road salt used area and didn't need the extra pep.

I thought I was king shit because she would let me go out and start it up so it could run a bit before taking us to school and her to work. Then I realized she just didn't want to freeze her ass off in the cold car. Still thought I was king shit though.

Kinda still do.

I've also owned two.
Both wagons.
Thought they were damn good cars.
Yuuuge amount of performance enhancing components for them.
