Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsHow long is your daily commute to and from work?
It took two hours each way to get to work at my last job. It takes an hour and a half each way at my current job. One of the things I'm hoping for in my next job in addition to better pay and benefits is a shorter commute.

(17,312 posts)I'm also working out of your home. Hope I'm not getting in your way!
Seriously, I've been working from home for the past three months. Loving it. If I want to take a break at any given time (other than when I'm expecting an important call), I can do it. Also worked on the main floor and lived upstairs in a previous job for almost eight years. Was grateful for that set up too.
The dog seems to appreciate having me around as well.

(2,541 posts)Hated it. Made for 14-15hr days. 12hr shift + 1.5-2hr drive each way not because of distance but traffic.
Now 15-20min tops. Life is much better. Best of luck getting the change u want!

(4,112 posts)From Danbury CT to midtown Manhattan. Most of it is on the train so it isn't too bad. Does make for a long day, but I get a lot of work done, especially if I can get a seat in the quiet car. I work from home one or two days per week, and that's a blessing. I used to commute all week. Don't know that I could handle that any more.

(31,396 posts)it took about an hour each way. When it rained (in Southern California) freeway lanes would flood and it would take me 2 hours to get to/from work.
My husband is semi-retired and has his office in our home. His commute is less than a minute to walk into his office.
I thought my commute was bad. It takes me about an hour and 15 minutes. By the time I get home I have had it with the world. Grab a bite to eat and then I take my animials (well they follow me) to my room and we watch TV, hug and kiss
I know I'm boring

(3,275 posts)I used to work two blocks away from my apartment. I got an additional part time job that was a mile away so I just walked when the weather was okay. It was a nice way to get some exercise.
burnbaby
(685 posts)my days are long with the driving and it seems to leave me with little time or interest in exercise. What I do,( I'm not sure if it helps) but when I park my car in the garage I go up a few levels take the stairs and then walk to work. It probably take me a total of 10 minutes one way. I guess it is better than nothing.
I suppose I could give up my wine at night.... nah that is not an option

(18,480 posts)I stay at a hotel 2 miles from work most days which is about 12 minutes round trip.
Sometimes I work from home which 30 feet not counting the odd trip to the kitchen for coffee.
There is a weekly round trip of about 9 hours to get there.
So, on average, for a 5 day work week, that's around 118 minutes per working day.
I liked it better working in California. One week there and two weeks from home. Wash rinse repeat.

(2,560 posts)Best: Darwin, Australia - I lived within 300 meters of where I worked. A very leisurely 10 minute walk.
Worst: Amsterdam, Netherlands - the distance was only about 110 kms (68 miles), but I'd be stuck in Rotterdam traffic, then Utrecht traffic, then in Amsterdam traffic. At least 2 hours, often closer to two and a half. Both ways.

Some times it takes longer to get in and park than it did to get to the base

(54,414 posts)Today was closer to six. I left the house at about 6:30 and arrived at my first appointment in Madrid at noon. I then had another 3 hours this afternoon to get to my final appointment here in Barcelona, where I'm spending the night. Yesterday, I had the four hour (door to door) commute each way from my house to Brussels and back. It just differs with the distance from my house to wherever my work is on any given day.

(54,414 posts)I left downtown Barcelona at about 5:45 PM for the airport, was there, checked in and through security by 6:40. The flight was scheduled to leave at 7:30 PM and it is a 100 minute flight back here to Düsseldorf. The flight was two hours late leaving, due to an ATC strike in France, and took half an hour longer than usual due to the convoluted route the pilot had to fly over restricted air space. I got home around midnight. So 6¼ hours to get home tonight.
I'm taking tomorrow off. I've had enough of this for one week (RHIP).
