I'm looking at an Alaska tour that involves a road trip

from Prudhoe Bay to Fairbanks on the Dalton highway. This is an escorted tour. I understand that a lot of that road is gravel. Can somebody out there give me a report on the Dalton highway?

I could stand some bumps here and there in the road. But if you're frequently encountering deep ruts and bumps in the road, I think I'll pass on that.

All gravel. Pretty smooth, beautiful drive. Hell on tires. Be prepared to change a few flats. There was a place at the half way point (Eagle Flats) that repaired tires for a reasonable fee.
