It has seven vertebrae, just like you and me.

I don't know anybody whose cervix has vertebrae.

It makes me want another one - and I can't do that right now for a number of reasons. In fact when it does come time for a new kitty I might adopt some older ones. But that will be a while down the road.

On the other hand, giraffes are cool but I have no aspiration of ever owning one. And watching April brings back memories of my days and nights watching and waiting for my mares to foal.

I've had dozens of foals born here and spent months checking them and watching for the foals to come. I've even been there to supervise the births, though I only ever had to help with one birth.

I'll wait until the little one is born and everything is all cleaned up. Then I'll get all squeee and enjoy the babies. But child/kitten/giraffe/anything else-birth is just too slippery and fluidy for me to want to watch.

I always imprinted my foals as soon as they took their first breath. It is so magical, even if it can be messy.

Even the problem birth, the one I had to help deliver, was amazing. After all we went through with that baby - she had leg problems which we had to treat for months after she was born - we couldn't sell her. She's now 18 and still going strong, though she is spoiled rotten. NOT a good thing for a mare that is 15.2 hands and weighs 1500 pounds.

I can tell with the way the baby keeps moving around.

In fact, looking at her right now, I suspect it's backbone is on the left side of her belly - which means it is not lined up in the birth canal yet.

With horses, a day or so before they foal the mares look smaller in the belly as the foal moves into the birth canal.



April's baby is kicking today. Poor girl - I bet she is ready for it to hit the ground and relieve her of it's weight!
