Shipping mysteries

Maybe when you clicked this subject you thought there was some interesting factoid here about boats sinking in the Bermuda Triangle or perhaps packages lost for 80 years being delivered but you would be wrong. The topic here is the shipping of items ordered online and delivered via the slow but free option.

Some of the routes I've seen have been a bit circuitous to say the least. I live near Philly over the river in NJ. I've ordered several items over time from a warehouse located at the other end of the state near NYC. I'm used to them having DHL drive it within a mile of my house only to go to Maryland and then back to a closer DHL location in NJ to leave it with the post office to bring it back to me.

Today's shipping of an order is somewhat less direct. Today's shipper is FedEx. They collected the parcel from what they say is Edison, NJ. The record shows that from Edison, which is just a bit West from Staten Island, this item made it to BREINIGSVILLE, PA in about 12 hours. From this PA location roughly 75 miles West of Edison the package took an interesting and scenic trip to East Brunswick, NJ.

This actually demonstrates progress in my direction not involving any backtracking but is the source the mystery. You see the net distance traveled in these 26 and half hours is about 7.5 miles South from Edison. Someone could make that trip on foot in 3 hours.

Anyone in the shipping business is invited to comment/speculate on the route as are any of you other wonderful folks who don't mind exposing yourselves to the possible threat of an asskicking by certain frequent lounge ruffian.

Please, whether you comment or not, cast a vote for you idea of the reason behind this mystery.
