"Why Can't You Ever Shut Up During A Concert?"

thought this was a pretty funny piece, and on the money
here's a few snippets

"We face an epidemic of People With Enough Disposable Income To Ignore The Event They Paid For [PWEDITITETPF], and it's gotten increasingly worse in the past few years. I have no raw data to support this, but I feel pretty comfortable presenting it as fact, and I blame the Internet and cell phones, which have trained our lizard brains to always be somewhere else that's not where we are right now."

snip

"What's gotten completely out of control is the prolonged, never-ending, half-shouted conversation that reduces a live performance to mere background music. My buddies didn't die face down in the Ticketmaster muck so I could hear all about how bad your pre-colonoscopy meds taste."

snip

"Last year, during Phish's Madison Square Garden New Year's Eve show, a crowd of PWEDITITETPF in my row would simply not let up during the first set. (Tickets were selling on StubHub for upwards of $1,000 EACH.) I politely asked the dude closest to me if they could keep it down, and he nodded vaguely, but that didn't stop his lady friend with the high-pitched voice from shattering Trey's sublime "Divided Sky" solo by shouting, "SO, how have YOU been?" This question is emblematic of the problem we face: our tormentors have failed to adequately "catch up" before the show, so they're using this opportunity—the fleeting live concert experience—to shoot the fucking breeze."

snip

"To be sure, it's a drag to have to deal with other people, but unless we start letting the PWEDITITETPF know that their incessant chatter is completely unacceptable, nothing is going to change. If you hear something, say something. And if you hear someone else say something to the PWEDITITETPF, back them up by chiming in. Together we can create a better world where concertgoers actually listen to the fucking music they paid for."

two years ago, three women (mid thirties) sitting in front of us, obviously bought the tickets on a lark, kept loudly chatting the first 45 minutes ignoring the music completely, then to our relief abruptly left.

That we don't gather anymore, so when we hit a concert we see people and yak yak yak. It has become a real problem lately and thats because we are all in our electronics, so when we actually interact with people, we are chatty Kathys.

Everyone should show up early and chat.

... these young people haven't been taught any manners by their parents.
Whether or not the parents have manners, is indeed questionable.

But in any case they've taught their children to have no consideration for anyone else.
They chatter away in public like they're in their own living room.

people out for a night, slumming in a jazz club because they read it was hip and talking over the music. this is an insult to some of the finest musicians in the world that they get to see for 20 bucks. insane and extremely annoying.

and have been since the late 70s. I found this clip of her singing one of my favourite songs and was appalled by the crowd talking.

7. This happened at the last San Francisco Giants game I attended- the woman behind us talked through

the entire game. She had that annoying nasal voice all these rude talkers seem to cultivate. Talking talking talking about everything but the baseball game. Directly behind us.

Both of my parents love baseball and when visiting Seattle way back in the 1990s, they decided to see the Seattle Mariners play against their favorite team that was in town that week - the Yankees. My dad came away complaining that everybody around them talked the entire time and none of it was about baseball. When he tried to bring it up in a friendly, conversational way, people looked at him like he was from another world and nobody really knew nothing about baseball. (They went to Seattle and Vancouver for a vacation...)

Bob Weir Tells Chatting Kathy’s to “Shut The Fuck Up”

http://liveforlivemusic.com/news/bob-weir-shut-the-fuck-up/

In his very own ‘Shot Heard Round the World’ or, at least in the music world, Bob Weir told some chatting Kathy’s at Sweetwater Music Hall, and quite succinctly mind you, to “SHUT THE FUCK UP!” during RatDog‘s performance the other night. Now, we can’t really say we blame him; actually, he was well within his right. This nationwide epidemic of people carrying on conversations over the music has become a complete hindrance to not only the artists, but the fans as well. Some of us actually give a shit as to what is going on up on the stage, as opposed to what Thad did to Miley (though, we can’t believe it either….soooo cray!).

11. My biggest problem with live concerts
Sat Apr 1, 2017, 03:16 PM
Apr 2017

are the people who hold up their cell phones and film every single minute of the show-- For me that's so effing annoying.
Sure, I can understand someone taking a selfie or two- but recording the whole show? It's ridiculous. They are paying more attention to their phones than the performance(s).

I was at a Springsteen concert and the woman next to me, unfortunately visible out of the corner of my eye, texted through the whole thing. The problem was that the light from the phone kept catching my eye. Drove me crazy.

I take a couple of random videos but I am there to enjoy the show. I have seen people do this at every level of venue I've ever been to. From small places like the Glass House (which I was at on Friday) to giant stadiums like Staples Center. I'm sure it annoys the bands too.

and the artist insisted that people post to Twitter or Instagram during the show, and if they did, make sure to tag whatever the tour was called at the time...

Different generation, I guess.

18. This isn't a new phenomenon. Try going to concerts in LA where people are given free tix

They don't even know who the band is and they fucking talk non-stop. Not matter how many times they are nicely asked to please stop talking.

This coupled with the ridiculous prices for most concerts has really curtailed my concert going.
